When your child gets excited about the tooth fairy, it can bring you back to a time when you believed too. It’s also a great opportunity to help your child think about their oral health and the condition of their teeth. Here are three ways you can welcome the tooth fairy into your home and bring good dental hygiene along with her.

#1: Make a Special Container for Your Child’s Tooth

You want to give your child the magic of the tooth fairy, but you might not be the best cat burglar. Having your child put their tooth in a separate container by their bed is an excellent alternative. It’s a little bit more manageable to take from than a pillow, and it gives you the opportunity to design something special with your child. Ask them what a fairy would like and then decorate a bowl with glitter, stickers, or whatever else they think would work.

#2: Put It on a Calendar

Your child is probably already used to having to brush their teeth each night, and the tooth fairy is a great excuse to reinforce that habit. One way to help is to have a calendar where your child records every time they brush or visit the dentist. If you’d like to start now, you can mark the day the tooth fairy will come, which will get them in the habit of looking at the schedule.

#3: Document the Occasion

The day the tooth fairy comes is a special occasion, and it should be remembered. You of course can keep your child’s tooth, but you should also offer them something to remember the day. You could have the tooth fairy leave a receipt, with a note thanking them for taking such good care of their teeth. You can collect the receipts in a scrapbook or put them in your baby book.

Traditions are great chances to bond. Whatever you do to welcome the tooth fairy, try to get your child involved. It’ll make your message about taking care of their teeth a lot more effective. Not to mention, the memories will be that much more special.

About Our Practice

At Hamilton Pediatric Dental Care, we know it can be hard to get your child to the dentist, so we take every step possible to make it simple.
